“I owe a great deal to my General Manager Dan, who has been my mentor since I started with the company in 2012,” says Jabari P., Branch Rental Manager in Atlanta. “When I started as a Management Trainee, he took me to a lunch sponsored by 100 Black Men of DeKalb County. Dan asked me to serve as a liaison between the group and Enterprise.”
Vice President and General Manager Dan M. has supported 100 Black Men through Enterprise for the last six years. “I got Jabari involved with 100 Black Men because he has a drive and passion to not only succeed with Enterprise but has the leadership skills to take on these projects and represent the company well,” says Dan. “I also believe he is an exceptional young man who these young boys will look up to and connect with. He has been a top performer at Enterprise since day one.”
100 Black Men sponsors a Leadership Academy that focuses on providing a series of structured educational activities that allow black male youths to learn and experience new environments and new growth opportunities.
“I was able to arrange for the high school students in the Leadership Academy to take a tour of the Atlanta airport and share with them the Enterprise employment opportunities available for college graduates,” says Jabari. “The youth had no idea that renting cars could lead to a successful and fulfilling career.”
“After that visit, the information I had been told about the Enterprise Holdings Foundation clicked. I thought of a way to help those students and knew that the company would back me,” Jabari explained. “Enterprise talks the talk and walks the walk.”
Jabari had an idea to provide textbooks to college freshmen so they would have the supplies they needed for their coursework.
“I applied to the Foundation to fund the book scholarship,” says Jabari. “Enterprise truly cares about our local communities.”
So far, three students have received a book scholarship of $300 each semester. They were chosen by 100 Black Men members based on academic performance. Future recipients will be chosen by Jabari through a more formal process centered on GPA, community service hours and an essay.
In December 2014, Jabari was invited to attend the 100 Black Men Winter Gala where he was called upon to accept an award on behalf of Enterprise for its ongoing support of the organization. “I had no idea they were even presenting an award. When they called my name, I couldn’t believe it,” says Jabari.
In addition to his willingness to help students in the community, Jabari is always happy to assist coworkers by answering questions, supporting other branches and being an unofficial mentor. His strong work ethic and helpful attitude has allowed him to consistently be a top performer and attain several promotions.
“I love helping fellow employees truly reach their full potential and find success at Enterprise by using my own success as an example,” says Jabari.
